Executive Director
The Elizabethton-Carter County Chamber is seeking applicants to fill the Executive Director position. Carter County is nestled in the Northeast corner of Tennessee bordering North Carolina and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains. The county seat-Elizabethton-boasts a traditional and historic downtown with the #1 Best Covered Bridge in the nation as voted in USA Today. Business, entrepreneurship, and industry are growing in Carter County while education thrives with two top K-12 school systems, Northeast State Community College, Tennessee Center for Applied Technology (TCAT), Milligan College, and neighboring East Tennessee State University (ETSU).
The Elizabethton / Carter County Chamber of Commerce serves as a business advocate and helps foster a climate of economic development for our community. The Chamber is a member organization whose purpose is to support the efforts of Education, Workforce Development, Tourism, and Entrepreneurship.
Position Summary
- In conjunction with the Board of Directors and key stakeholders, develop short-term and long-term fundraising and revenue strategies and programs to serve the interests of membership and the business community.
- Implement and execute the established short-term and long-term fundraising and revenue strategies, goals, programs and events as well as continue with developed membership and community-based programming. Recruit and retain Chamber membership as well as gather sponsorships and fundraising for Chamber events and programing.
- Oversee day to day management of the Chamber, Tourism, and Visitors Center operations, programs, and staff. This also includes activities of the Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
- Manages the Chamber’s finances, monthly reconciliations, and financial operations working closely with a third-party bookkeeper and finance committee assuring a strong financial position and adherence to the adopted budget. This also includes all entities within the Chamber of Commerce umbrella – Tourism, Chamber Foundation, and the main Chamber budget.
- Serve as a public advocate for the interests of the business community through frequent interaction with key public and private stakeholders, including local governments and officials.
- Strengthen programs in support of business member recruitment and retention, education, economic development and workforce development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of Chamber, Business, or Non-profit management experience. A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to work with a Board of Directors and other public and private stakeholders, such as elected government officials, and key business leaders in the community. The candidate must also possess superior leadership and communication skills, and management skills to supervise Chamber operations and staff.
