Boots Off Hostel & Campground is a small/medium sized outdoor recreation center for any and all outdoor enthusiasts.  From Appalachian Trail hikers, to weekend warriors and everyone in between, you will find several ways to enjoy the outdoors when staying at Boots Off.
We have the Appalachian Trail just steps from the bottom of our driveway along with the Watauga Lake beach area just a short walk further. We offer wooded primitive tent or hammock camping in our “walk-down” campground. We also have a bunkhouse that sleeps 8 in which each bed can be rented out individually for budget friendly group lodging, or it can be rented out in its entirety for small family and friend group outings so you can avoid the hassle of setting up tents and bringing extra equipment. Another popular option is our private cozy Tiny Cabins. Perfect for the solo person, couple, or small family that wants their own comfortable tiny private space to sleep without the hassle of setting up a tent and bringing extra gear and equipment. We call it our Boots Off “glamping” experience with most amenities of home in a rustic and very well thought out and functional tiny space. Please stop in and check us out.
All stays include our light continental breakfast of strong coffee, donuts, cereal and milk, and fresh fruit put out in our main common area each morning at 7:00 am.  Super clean and unique showers and bathrooms are a short walk away from all lodging options as is the main social indoor/outdoor common area with kitchenette and dining area.  Charging stations available in this common area along with most things you will find in a kitchen.  More than enough to prepare small meals.  Also provided are charcoal grills to also expand meal cooking options (Charcoal not provided).
Please join us for some good times in our old growth wooded campground and property, nestled on a ridge next to the Cherokee National Forest and pristine Watauga Lake.  We have Johnson City and the other Tri-Cites just 30 minutes away with plenty of other smaller towns much closer.  Also, we have several area attractions within a 30 minute drive or less so no shortage of things to do.
Please think of us when looking for a weekend getaway or “staycation” where you don’t have to travel far from home for fun adventures and good times!  Are you ready for your Lake Day?

More than a Room in the Mountains

Watauga Lake, the third-cleanest lake in America, beckons water enthusiasts to Tennessee, just 45 minutes from Boone. Once there, you can enjoy a powerboat ride, picnic or just spend a few relaxing hours by water’s edge.

In an area known for whitewater rafting, Watauga Lake allows visitors to slow down and enjoy the stunning scenery of the Cherokee National Forest and Appalachian Mountains of Northeastern Tennessee. Created in 1942 by the Tennessee Valley Authority, Watauga Lake is located east of Elizabethton and southwest of Mountain City.

There, visitors can canoe, swim, fish or ride a sailboat. Not all lake activities are slow-paced, though. You can also water ski or skim the waves in a Jet Ski.

Come to Lakeshore Resort & Marina for all your aquatic needs. Rent ski boats, pontoons and ski equipment for a reasonable price, then head out on the water for a fun-filled day. We invite you to view our website and visit us for an enjoyable day on the lake.
