The annual Lighting of the Fraser Fir is a community event to ring in the holiday season. Join us at the historic Folsom House (UT Extension Office) in Downtown Elizabethton on Tuesday, November 19th. Festivities Include: Christmas Caroling with Sycamore Shoals State Park, National Anthem performed by Happy Valley High School Trumpeters, and performances by Elizabethton High School Choral Group. This Tree and the Folsom House just behind hold significant history for Carter County. The two-story clapboard house was owned by Major H. M. Folsom. The story goes that in the late 1860’s the Folsom family went to Roan Mountain and brought home Fraser Fir Saplings. These saplings were planted on each side of the home and the 78-foot tree standing today is the largest Fraser Fir in the State of Tennessee and Second largest in the Nation. It is the tallest decorated Fraser Fir in the world!
Another great holiday event is the Downtown Elizabethton Christmas Parade, scheduled for December 7.
