Bob’s Dairyland

Bob’s Dairyland opened in the mid-1950’s as the “Roanview Dairyland” by Floyd and Sadie Moody. We are one of the oldest restaurants in Carter County. The original building was just a walk-up, and served the typical hamburgers and fries. In the early 1960’s, Bob Burleson purchased the business and changed the name to “Bob’s Dairyland” and we have stayed the same ever since. Through the years, the building has been expanded, with the addition of a dining room and drive through window being the primary changes. Also the menu has grown as well, adding legendary items like our Alaskan Whitefish, and World Famous Dairyland Slaw to the increasing number of selections. Today, Bob’s Dairyland is at the heart of the Roan Mountain community geographically, and historically. We frequently field calls from around the country from people travelling to the area, looking for other area businesses, or trying to contact local residents that eat in our restaurant daily! It is not uncommon at all for someone to come in and tell us they used to come to Bob’s Dairyland on dates, and in fact at least one couple now married for many decades first met and dated here! Often, we have multiple generations of customers tell us they first came in with their grandparents, and they are now bringing back their grandchildren. Our menu now encompasses hundreds of selections, from scratch-made Buttermilk Biscuits at breakfast, hamburgers ground daily in our kitchen, hand-breaded seafood choices like Flounder and Alaskan Whitefish, to our wood-smoked Pork Barbecue with Joe’s homemade sauces. We make everything we can from our own recipes, with fresh ingredients, daily in our kitchen. We serve the finest in Southern Comfort foods to our customers, and we make it all just like we are serving our family and friends…because that is exactly what you are! We don’t consider ourselves to be the “owners” of Bob’s Dairyland, we are simply the caretakers of this legendary local restaurant. It has been an integral part of the local community for decades, and it is an honor to be a part of the history.
