The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce offers an Adult and Youth Leadership Program. The program focuses on creating future leaders in the community.

Adult Leadership

The Carter County Tomorrow Leadership program was started in 1997. The leadership class teaches individuals about the community in which they live and work to help them better understand the local economy, government, education and healthcare systems, as well as industry. Businesses today need strong leaders. The class will meet one day each month.  Some of the classes will include:

  • Regional Leadership Day-Meet with other classes in our region to learn about other counties and participate in several educational seminars.
  • Healthcare Day- Visit Sycamore Shoals Hospital to learn about our local healthcare system. If weather permits Wings Air Rescue will provide flight trips.
  • Local Government-Visit the departments of the City/County Government and discuss local issues with the Mayors. A tour of the Sheriff’s Department and Water Treatment Plant is scheduled.
  • Business and Industry Day- Speak to the local Economic Developer about the growth of our community.  Tour the Municipal Airport and Snap On Tools.
  • Education Day- Learn about and tour our local school systems and how education is the key to a healthy economy.
  • Heritage – Visit Roan Mountain State Park and discover the history of Carter County.
  • State Government Day- (2 Day Trip) Travel to Nashville to speak with various department heads such as education, healthcare and transportation.  A tour of the Capitol is scheduled if time allows.
  • Federal Government Day-(3 Day Trip) -Meet our State Representatives on Tennessee Tuesday to discuss local issues that interest you in Washington D.C. If time allows tour the Capitol and Monuments as well as the Smithsonian.

 Who should participate?

The participants in the program are men and women representing a cross section of Carter County. Participants are selected for their potential or demonstrated leadership abilities and their commitment to the community. Interaction with a diverse group stimulates and challenges each member.

Each person has their own unique personality and goals in life. If you have the desire to accomplish your goals in your professional and want to help others, you should participate in the class.
